Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Polymer Chemistry
Job No.:
495515
Area:
Aust Institute for Bioengineering & Nanotechnology
Salary (FTE):
Academic Research Level A1 ($58,763.47 - $79,708.50)
Work type:
Full Time - Fixed Term
Location:

The Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) is an integrated multi-disciplinary research institute bringing together the skills of world-class researchers in the areas of bioengineering and nanotechnology. It is home to 19 research groups working at the interface of the biological, chemical and physical science to alleviate current problems in human health and environmental issues.
This position will be within the field of research into advanced polymeric materials for microelectronics, and is supported by an ARC Linkage Project Grant (Whittaker, Blakey, Trefonas and Thackeray). The industry partner on the Linkage Project is the Dow Chemical Company.
The role
The position will develop a strong and productive research program in the synthesis and evaluation of advanced polymeric materials that will be designed to solve manufacturing and processing challenges that occur in modern nanofabrication platforms, such as 193 nm and extreme ultraviolet lithography.
Duties include: Synthesis and characterization of well defined block copolymers; Development of a detailed understanding of how the structure of the block copolymers influences their physical properties and in turn how their physical properties dictate their behaviour at interfaces, for example, how they behave during self assembly in patterned templates; Use advanced methods for polymer characterization and thin film metrology to help achieve these goals; Liaising with the project manager, other team members, and collaborators to work towards the common objectives of the project and to prepare reports of experimental findings, write publications and present seminars.
The person
Applicants should possess a PhD in polymer physical / synthetic chemistry. Experience in preparation of complex polymeric structures using modern synthetic methods and detailed knowledge and experience with detailed characterization of polymers is essential. Experience in high-resolution characterisation of polymer morphologies and an interest in technology commercialization and product development is desirable. You should also have good writing and presentation skills, and the capacity to work within a multidisciplinary research team.
Remuneration
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for one (1) year at Research Academic Level A with the possibility of extension of up to one (1) year. The remuneration package will be in the range $ 58,763 - $ 79,708 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%, total package will be in the range $68,752 - $93,258 p.a..
