PhD in polymer physics

We are seeking a PhD student for an interdisciplinary project in the area of self-assembled polymers for drug delivery. The PhD student will focus on the characterization of polymer self-assembly and the resultant nanoparticles using scattering techniques. The PhD student will be predominantly located at ANSTO, but is required to travel to UNSW for occasional meetings with the other team members.  ANSTO hosts world class neutron and x-ray scattering facilities and expertise as well as the National Deuteration Facility which will facilitate neutron scattering studies.  The group of Prof Martina Stenzel creates smart nanoparticles for drug delivery using novel chemical syntheses of self-assembling polymers.  We hope that the suitable candidate will create fundamental insight into the design of polymers that self-assemble into nanoparticles for drug delivery.

Essential criteria
Honours or Master's Degree in Chemistry, Physics or Engineering, i.e. eligible to enrol in a PhD at UNSW
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Willing to apply for security clearance at ANSTO and travel interstate to Australian Synchrotron
Demonstrated ability to write scientifically to a high level

Desirable criteria
Scattering (neutrons, x-rays or light) experience
Experience in analysis of experimental data with a package such IgorPro, Matlab etc on computer
Experience in other advanced physio-chemical characterisation e.g. PFG NMR,  DSC, Raman, IR/UV/Vis spectroscopy, rheology etc
